Understanding the Duration of an Echocardiogram: What to Expect

An echocardiogram, also known as an echo or cardiac ultrasound, is a non-invasive medical test used to assess the structure and function of the heart. In general, a standard transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. On the other hand, a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) may take a bit longer, usually around 30 to 45 minutes. TEE involves inserting a small, flexible tube with an ultrasound probe down the throat to obtain more detailed images of the heart.
